Seeing the Light!

Basic Understanding of the Brow Chakra

(The brow chakra is located in the centre of the forehead between the eyebrows and has an opening only to the front – it is believed by some that the brow chakra also has an opening at the back of the head, but the energy centre at the back of the head is a different one called the Bindu.)

In past blog posts, we have gradually been working our way up the seven main chakras to learn how they work together to keep our body, mind and spirit in balance. No chakra is more important than any other, despite the temptation for some people who are setting out on a spiritual path to work more on the brow and crown chakra. It is a false idea that it will lead them to some kind of spiritual enlightenment sooner. The brow should not be worked on solely without making sure all the lower chakras are open and balanced first, there is the potential that it can trigger unpleasant emotional or even physical symptoms. Like everything we learn in life, having a firm foundation underpins our future success.

Concentrating on opening our brow and crown centres without taking full care of the lower chakras is not the answer to gaining insight or mediumistic abilities. Some mediums who have done this prematurely may have found themselves suffering from other emotional disturbances or physical ailments along the way. Becoming a medium is a great responsibility and should never be taken lightly or treated as a means for purely making a fortune. That is not intended as a criticism for those who happen to make a living from it, sometimes their work is of great value to humanity and they must follow the path they are intuitively guided to take. Many renowned and experienced mediums make a living from their ability and also use some of their earnings towards the greater good. Thus, finding a balance. It is advisable not set out to become a medium or a healer with the original thought that it is an easy option for making an income, but allow yourself to be guided by your authentic inner wisdom and not your inner desire which is a lower based energy!

As we have also noticed with the other chakras, we seem to intuitively understand where we experience emotions, think about the following words and how they may refer to our brow chakra:

  • Insight – note the use of the word in-sight – as in inner sight rather than our physical sight, the brow chakra also known as our third eye or the eye to our inner vision.

  • Intuition – again the word in-tuition meaning inner guidance

  • Instinct, inspiration, innate all have the prefix ‘in’ suggesting that these experiences are internal or from within ourselves.

  • Light bulb moment, seeing the light, enlightening - the pineal gland is associated with light or clarity.

  • Clear vision – Knowledge or ideas that seem completely correct.

  • Ability to see or understand a ‘Bigger Picture’

We have mentioned before, the chakras are potentially linked to our endocrine system via glands in the body, if that is so, then the brow centre is said to be linked to the Pineal or the Pituitary Gland, as both are in close proximity within the brain, there are differences of opinion over which is correct. All ‘evidence’ is as yet purely subjective and not yet based on science.

Out of interest, the Sanskrit word for the Brow Chakra is Ajna which means ‘foremost’, in spiritual terms means beyond worldly distractions. It certainly seems to connect us to our inner vision or wisdom with the ability to lead us beyond the physical and dualistic world of likes and dislikes that we inhabit. The colour associated with the brow is indigo, or deep blue, which is also the colour seen in the space beyond the bounds of our earth.

Possible Symptoms Connected with a Brow Chakra Imbalance or Blockage

These are just a few potential examples that may indicate imbalances or blockages in that area. As with all problematic symptoms it is important to have a correct diagnosis and not rely on the internet to self-diagnose:

  • Mood swings or depression – normally due to a feeling of being disconnected

  • Inability to make wise choices or struggling to make a decision

  • Struggling with imaginative creation (artistic or writers block etc.)

  • Headaches

  • Eye problems

  • Sleep problems

  • Anxiety or overthinking, trying to be analytical instead of trusting gut feelings

  • Self-doubt

A Healthy and Balanced Brow Chakra

  • A good inner guidance system – making clear decisions

  • Potential insight about things – the phone ringing, people you are going to see etc.

  • Clear dreams

  • Noticing a greater appreciation in the beauty of nature, colours etc. may seem brighter.

  • Greater observation of things around you

  • ‘Knowing’ what to do or say

  • Potentially an increase in psychic ability

  • A general greater awareness
